Article of Faith 13 and its Influence in my Content Decisions
Content creation is a delicate area where we must be careful about the subjects or topics we consume or create, as they can influence people’s lives positively or negatively. I believe that creating content that uplifts people’s lives with honesty can strengthen my credibility and that of others. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, understanding the principles in Article of Faith 13 is crucial when I decide what content to consume or post.
The Article of Faith 13 states that “we believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul - We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” This article serves as a reminder for me of all the positive values I must keep in my content and helps me keep my eyes open to avoid wasting time on anything that will not contribute to strengthening these values.
From this understanding of the article, I conclude that if anything in the content goes against honesty, chastity, virtue, or love for others, it is not worth my time. On the contrary, when content focuses on strengthening people’s morals and uses honest arguments to convey the truth, it gains my trust. It gives me the confidence to share it with others who can benefit from its message. Similar to this choice of content, I use the same process to decide which content I will create and how it will help other people have more virtuous, lovely, and of good report thoughts and actions. As a result, this gives my content a touch of professionalism and veracity people usually seek, even if I am sharing it to entertain.
For me, choosing and creating great content depends on how much positivity it brings to people, not only on how much it entertains me or others. I think it is crucial to recognize which content just wastes my time and which makes me use it productively to strengthen my personal values, so I can have more love for others and give them the best of me. This article of faith is the reminder I use every time I feel that I need a refreshment on those values.
